DIY alt-rockers The Maine today release their eighth studio album, XOXO: From Love & Anxiety In Real Time, in a partnership between their label, 8123 and Photo Finish Records. The hook laden, feel good album arrived just in time for the peak of summer and they kick off the release with an LA POP-UP shop on 7/10/21 and a live stream concert called Face Towards The Sun happening at 7PM PT/ 10PM ET on 7/11/21. Tickets for the live stream event are available through the Pillar app.
Lead singer John O’Callaghan says, “I suppose it’s mostly for you to decide what ‘XOXO’ means. But to me, it’s the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows, and every last little feeling in between. So without dirtying it all up with words, please sit back and with an open head and heart and allow us to bring you our 8th studio album, XOXO FROM LOVE & ANXIETY IN REAL TIME.”
The first track and single from the LP “Sticky,” released in March is a pop gem. It proves its lyrics “want to play you over and over again” to be true by reaching #16 on Mediabase’s Alternative chart and the song recently debuted on the “Alt 18” on SiriusXM’s Alt Nation.
The album pivots to tracks “Pretender'' and “High Forever” which flex their rock sensibilities.
The pretty, jangly “Pretender” is a poignant catchy cut. “High Forever” relies on John’s rasp and drummer Pat Kirch’s powerful percussion to drive the song.
The infectious “Lips” is a sweet summer anthem. The love song, which kicks off with a riff which propels listeners to get up and dance.
The new 10-track album, XOXO: From Love And Anxiety In Real Time, showcases their knack for combining pop and rock without losing any danceability. The Maine’s roots in DIY remain strong on this record as the band effortlessly boasts their homemade anthemic and revelatory lyrics on each track. Their songwriting on this collection includes their consistently thoughtful lyrics touching on the topics of love and mental health while holding onto their positive radio friendly sound.
John's vocals dance through catchy melodies, expertly backed by the rest of the band’s masterful performances.
The Maine is John O’Callaghan (Lead Vocals, Piano, Rhythm Guitar), Kennedy Brock (Guitar, Back-up Vocals), Jared Monaco (Lead Guitar), Garrett Nickelsen (Bass), and Pat Kirch (Drums, Percussion).
Jointly The Maine have announced a pop-up shop in Los Angeles on 7/10 starting at 11AM PT until 5PM PT. It is being held at 1028 South Los Angeles Street, Los Angeles, CA.
The Maine will head out on tour alongside All Time Low, Movements, Grayscale, and Destroy Boys, on the Sad Summer Festival.
